About the Library

Introduction

Established in 1992, Jahurul Islam Medical College (JIMC) received approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The college campus, set amidst green vegetation and spaced towns near a circuit house, provides a scenic and tranquil environment conducive to learning. The college spans approximately 33 acres, housing all preclinical and para-clinical departments in its academic building, which includes classrooms, a dissection hall, laboratories, a museum, and a well-equipped modern academic library, the JIMC Central Library, on the 4th floor. The library accommodates over 200 users in its reading area and is frequented by more than 150 individuals daily, including doctors, members, teachers, and students.

Located on the 2nd floor of the academic building, the JIMC Library occupies a compact space with built-in facilities catering to students, doctors, teachers, and researchers.

Library Policy

The JIMC library invites all members (teachers, students, and staff) to utilize its facilities and collections. The following rules and regulations are designed to ensure optimal service for all users:

• All non-reference materials should be checked at the circulation desk.
• A valid JIMC ID card is required for borrowing materials.
• Reference books, journals, theses, research reports, and magazines cannot be borrowed but read in the library.
• Teachers and staff can borrow two or three books for one month; students can borrow two books for two weeks.
• Materials must be returned on or before the due date to avoid fines.
• Materials can be renewed before the due date without fines.
• A fine of 5 Tk. per day is charged for overdue books.
• Lost materials must be replaced at the original price plus a 15% service charge.
• Damaged or lost materials must be replaced; replacement costs are not accepted unless the item is unavailable in the market.
• Clearance from the library is required for receiving course completion certificates or upon separation from the college.
• Computer services are available for academic and research work, with one hour usage per person.
• Reading areas cannot be reserved.
• Personal possessions are not allowed in the reference, journal, and book stack areas.
• Food and drinks are prohibited.
• Smoking is strictly prohibited.
• Distribution of unauthorized materials is not allowed.
• Members should not move books or materials between areas.
• Only library staff should replace documents on shelves.
• Contact library staff for emergencies.
• Silence is mandatory to avoid disturbing others.
• Misuse of library facilities can result in termination of membership.
• Offensive behavior will result in expulsion from the library.
• Handle books and materials with care to avoid damage.
• Report any defects in materials to library staff immediately.
• Marking or defacing library materials is prohibited.
• Materials must be registered at the circulation counter before removal from the library.
• Non-members need special permission for research purposes to use the library.
